Hosting Services faq

Internet Domain Name Registration

This document was created for those who may be 'GREEN' or new to the internet. Or you might say lack knowledge of how internet hosting works.

Anyone can register ANY domain name they want. Certain rules apply depending on the TLD (Top Level Domain)

I buy domain names when needed to facilitate a website design project for the creation of websites for my clients.
Transfer of a domain to the customer is usually not a problem.

It must be noted that the domain name must be in good standing and all outstanding fee's must be paid prior to any transfer action commencing.

Things you should know about a domain name, and a website, these are not made up by me, they are the protocol of how the internet works. You'd think after in excess of 20 years of operating an internet hosting company and working as a hosting server administrator and web developer that I would know a thing or two on the subject.

I'd like to share my expertise with you. And offer my clients some thing better. And perhaps prevent you from falling prey to bad internet or not very good internet service providers.

  1. - You need a domain name.
  2. - You need a hosting service.
  3. - Not all hosting services are the same.

There are 2 yearly or annual fee's associated with a domain and website.
These are the rules of the internet "not mine".
We recommend Reg.ca for domain registration, prices vary depending on the TLD.

1 - Domain Registration - (The domain name registrar) - Yearly fee $
2 - Hosting - (The domain name host server) - Yearly fee $
This allows you to have the following:
- Hosting of (Domain Name Service aka DNS)
- Hosting of (Website)
- Hosting of (Email)

There may be other additional associated annual fee's depending on the website requirements.
- Static I.P. Address
- A secure key

(above are just 2 examples of the extra fee's that can possibly be incurred.)

Hosting Services

Not all hosting services are the same. I offer competitively priced packages for small, medium and large business's.

Why do I provide hosting services? Because not all hosting services are the same. Time and time again I am asked to create a website where the client has already purchased hosting with some provider that does not suit the needs of what the customer is telling me they want. And the hosting service is not able to provide a suitable enviroment for the clients website.

In other words not all hosting services are created equally. Often a client wants the most up to date website programming but the hosting service they have chosen has not kept up with the type of technology required for the clients needs.

I became so frustrated with the recurring scenario, I began to offer full service domain and website hosting services that work. Many of the packages I offer come with a cPanel control panel system. If the customer is savey they can manage their own domain and website.

  1. Domain Name Registration.
  2. Domain Hosting Services.
  3. Website Hosting Services.
  4. Email Hosting Services.
  5. cPanel Domain Control Panel.

Previous experience as an Internet Hosting company technical co ordinator and head of technical support. I've seen how poor some of the hosting companies service can be.

Recommended Suppliers

There have been a lot of internet companies over the years. I have come to recognize those who remain and those that I continue to do business with on behalf of my clients.

Unfortunately, all to often I have seen clients who 'think they know' unwittingly get themselves into trouble.

Common Big Mistakes

The following are some of the most common mistakes I see recurring regularly. While working with my clients, I try to prevent these.

  1. - Allowing your domain name to expire.
    - You must remember that if you allow your domain name registration to lapse, you face additional fee's known as redemption.
    - Redemption fee's can cost anywhere between $200.00 - $500.00 extra to regain your domain name.
    - these costs vary depending on the TLD.
    - If you don't pay attention to the reminders, the domain name may be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
  2. - Allowing website hosting to expire.
    - When you allow your website hosting to lapse, you face fall-back in that your site may be removed from the internet search engines.
  3. - Not providing content to your web developer.
    - Wow when I speak to many of my internet, website design and programming piers they all have the same complaint.
    - The customer fails to provide content for their website.
  4. - Website maintenance.
    - The responsibility of maintaining a website falls to the owner of the site. If you want to keep your site up to date. Your choices are, do it yourself or hire someone.

Hopefully this information will help you understand and save you from some of these common mistakes that can cause serious problems.

With many of my clients I register and maintain the domain name for them and than I bill them, this value added service usually prevents at least two of the above described issue's.
